On Attention
Meta's AI Now Grades Your Creative. Similar Ads Get One Auction Ticket.
At Cannes Lions 2026, Meta announced a full AI creative ecosystem — generation, testing, performance analysis — wrapped inside a feature called Brand Memory. The presentation was positioned as a breakthrough for advertisers. But the more consequential announcement was smaller and less discussed: Andromeda, Meta's underlying ad delivery engine, now assigns an Entity ID to every ad based on its visual and audio fingerprint. If two or more ads share the same background, creator, or visual structure, Andromeda groups them under a single Entity ID — meaning you have effectively one ad in the auction, regardless of how many files you uploaded.
What One Entity ID Costs You
Andromeda's job is to scan millions of ad candidates and compile a shortlist of roughly 1,000 per user per impression. Your creative diversity determines how many tickets you have in that process — not your budget. Meta's internal testing found that one ad set containing 25 genuinely distinct creatives delivered 17% more conversions at 16% lower cost than five ad sets each running five minor variations of the same concept. A $5,000/month account with 20 diverse creatives can outperform a $50,000/month account running three conceptual directions recycled across fifty files.
The pattern driving this is now well-documented. Forty-six percent of marketers are using AI to scale creative output, and 86% have seen AI-generated content that resembles a competitor's. This is not a bug — it is the expected output of tools trained on the same data, running on similar briefs, producing structurally similar work. Andromeda penalizes the result: visual sameness reads as a single ad, and a single ad competes for a fraction of the reach that five genuinely different ones would generate.
What Diverse Creative Actually Looks Like
For most Saudi and Gulf brands, the phrase 'diverse creative' still gets interpreted as 'more variations of the same ad' — a product photo in five colors, the same scene with three captions. This is not what Andromeda is measuring. The algorithm evaluates structural distinctiveness: different visual concepts, different creators or no creator at all, different formats, different emotional registers. A product demo, a testimonial with real friction, a text-led explainer, a lifestyle sequence, a founder speaking directly. Five ads that feel like five different ways of earning attention — that is the input the system rewards.
When the AI auction values creative diversity over creative volume, the brief becomes the most leveraged document in your media spend.
The Strategy Behind the Tool
The irony of the current moment is that the same AI wave making creative production cheaper is also raising the bar on creative strategy — in the sense that producing work the platform doesn't collapse into a single slot now requires deeper original thinking. Any team can generate fifty assets today. The actual scarcity is the thinking that makes those fifty assets represent five distinct concepts rather than one concept repeated.
For Saudi and Gulf brands reviewing their Meta strategy for the second half of 2026, the starting question is not 'how many ads should we run?' but 'how many genuinely different ways do we have to approach this audience?' If the honest answer is two or three, the brief needs to expand before the media plan does.
